The Centre & The University of Fraser Valley

The Mindfulness-Based Teaching and Learning (MBTL) graduate certificate at The University of Fraser Valley (UFV) develops professionals to be able to deliver evidence-based mindfulness programs in a range of institutional and community contexts. Through the collaboration between the Centre and UFV-MBTL, we have created a national network and communities of practice in mindfulness education. Since MBTL was designed on the template of the Centre’s courses and curriculum, you may use one of these three courses (MBSR TTI, MBCT TTI, and MBCT Practicum) taken with the Centre as equivalent transfer credit for MBTL 710 at UVF should you wish to take the UFV MBTL certificate.

If you are interested in taking one of the Centre’s courses in lieu of UFV 710, please submit an application

  • a completed application is always required
  • the $50 application assessment fee is waived for MBTL students
  • if you are interested in pursuing the full MBCT/MBSR certificate training pathway with the Centre, please indicate this in your application

Current MBTL Students

For MBTL students who decide to also pursue the Centre’s MBCT or MBSR training pathway, please be aware of the following processes and equivalencies. For clarity, the processes are described separately – for those interested in MBCT first and then for those pursuing MBSR certificate.

MBTL & MBCT

Step 1: Apply
The $50 application assessment fee is waived for MBTL students but the Centre does require the application to be submitted.
Complete your application online.

Step 2: Introductory Training Modules
MBTL students pursuing the MBCT certificate training pathway do not have to complete the MBCT Basics course but do have to take CBT Meets MindfulnessNote: if possible, CBT Meets Mindfulness should be completed before taking the MBCT TTI but since the CBT course is only offered twice a year, the timing of this requirement is flexible.

Step 3: Teacher Training Intensive
Once your application has been received and the introductory training modules have been waived or completed, you can register for the MBCT TTI. Contact info@MindfulnessStudies.com for the registration link.

Step 4: Mentorship
MBTL students pursuing the MBCT certificate training pathway must complete the minimum of 12 hours of mentorship over the course of facilitating one MBCT program. MBTL students must follow the same process as all trainees in regard to mentorship – start by contacting their preferred mentor(s), entering into a mentorship agreement, and submitting the $200 administrative fee. More information about MBCT mentorship is available here. Questions or concerns regarding mentorship should be addressed to education@MindfulnessStudies.com.

Step 5: Certificate
Once all required MBTL courses and CMS training modules are complete, students can request their MBCT Certificate in recognition of their Trained MBCT Facilitator status.

Step 6: Advanced Training
To be recognized as a Certified MBCT Facilitator, students are encouraged to continue their training with the Advanced Teacher Training Intensive and 12+ hours of Advanced Mentorship. Certification will not be obtained until the mentor writes a letter of recommendation on behalf of the trainee. The recommendation letter is expected to make clear reference to the trainee’s abilities in each area of the MBI-TAC.

Automatic Waivers: The following training modules are waived for  MBTL students pursuing the MBCT certificate training pathway: MBCT Basics, MBCT Practicum, Inquiry Essentials.
