Joint Announcement: Reconnect Health Services and Centre for Mindfulness Studies
The Centre for Mindfulness Studies was established in 2011 with the express purpose of bringing mindfulness-based training to those who might be living with income or other challenges, while also building capacity among professional to deliver this education.
Over the 13+ years that the Centre has been in operation, it has reached some 20,000 clients and trained over 500 facilitators. We are immensely grateful for the generous support of donors, funders, facilitators, community partners and especially our participants who made this possible.
Our mission has always been predicated on broadening access to and improving the quality of mindfulness-informed education. Reflecting on our journey, the Board decided that future growth would be best served if these programs could become part of a larger, more integrated mental health services provider.
We are thus very pleased to announce that the Centre has reached an Agreement with Reconnect Health Services to transfer its Canadian-based mindfulness programs, staff, including Marija Miskovic, Director of Community Programs, and faculty to them. Reconnect is a fellow non-profit with deep roots in community mental health. We have worked closely with them in the past, delivering mindfulness programs and training several of their clinicians on mindfulness-based approaches. The transfer will be effective June 1, 2025.
Reconnect intends to develop a stream of Mindfulness programming within its Academy of Professional Development. This includes Community Programs and allows for the relaunch of Professional Development and Certificate Programs. Plans for upcoming course availability will be announced by Reconnect in the coming weeks.
CMS will continue to operate as a charitable non-profit. For the foreseeable future, we will continue to operate our international programs in China and the Philippines. We will also continue to partner with Reconnect, sharing our joint experience of the evolving role of mindfulness-based interventions in the mental health sector.
“Reconnect Health Services expresses its gratitude to the Centre for Mindfulness Studies for the privilege of operating and delivering mindfulness programs. We are dedicated to building upon the remarkable work accomplished by the Centre and actively seek opportunities to disseminate mindfulness to a diverse audience.”
