Mindfulness Training for Emotional Resilience (MTER) Training Course

Start: Friday, March 6, 2020

Develop mindfulness skills that are accessible and transferable in a variety of clinical settings
Learn to facilitate the 4-week Mindfulness Training for Emotional Resilience (MTER) program for those who are in immediate need of mental health services and stabilization. People seeking mental health services through community settings where there are long waitlists, or those who are dealing with crisis and need more stabilization, can benefit from this brief MTER program. MTER can also prepare them for longer, 8-week mindfulness programs offered through more specialized mental health services.

MTER is a short-term, psycho-educational program that is trauma-informed and can be accessible to people dealing with more critical stages of emotional instability as well as people who are interested in a brief, practical approach to learning mindfulness skills in a health care setting. This program focuses on mindfulness skills for mental health and combines:

  • Psycho-education on emotional regulation and the neuroscience of mindfulness
  • Simple mindfulness practices that can be followed in daily life

MTER is intended to provide user-friendly mental health tools that can be used in a self-directed way or with the support of a mental health provider or guide.

Participants Will Learn
This 2-day professional training course will examine the four modules of the MTER program:

  • Module 1: introduction to mindfulness for mental health; emotional regulation with mindfulness; grounding for safety; three-minute breathing space meditation; bringing mindfulness into daily life
  • Module 2: neuroplasticity and neuroscience of mindfulness; the triune model of the brain; how to meditate; meditation of breath
  • Module 3: mindfulness of emotions; the emotions wheel; sitting with pleasant / unpleasant / neutral emotions; meditation on working with emotions in the body
  • Module 4: setting an action for mindfulness in daily life; balancing stress with nourishing activities, self-compassion meditation

Who Should Attend
Front-line clinicians and mental health peer support workers who want to offer mindfulness services in their settings but do not have the resources or expertise to offer therapy-based approaches like MBCT. Participants come from a wide variety of backgrounds including social workers, physicians, teachers, peer support workers, psychologists, and child and youth workers.
